Doctors no longer going to induce by my due date (this Thursday) because of shingles. I am still getting new lesions, and this could pass the virus to the baby (through contact). The shingles have caused a new level of pain the past two days. Unreal. I feel like my ribs have been broken and are sore and the stabbing, searing pains in my side and back occurs more frequently. Really hoping I do not experience the long term nerve damage/pain that can sometimes occur from this crappy virus.
Nothing to do but wait. Baby showing little signs of coming on his own anytime soon (but that could always turn on a dime) so we will wait and monitor again on Thurs to make sure no signs of fetal distress and then reevaluate everything next Monday. Definitely didn't expect this outcome.
We are going to pick up Ginger. They finished the surgery a few hours ago but could not make a determination and have to send out a biopsy sample. I was hoping for better news - like it was just an infected cyst or something like that. Cancer sucks. Poor old dog.

Better day today
Today was a bit better - shingles pain was sporadic and mostly tolerable for much of the day, though I needed to lay down for a bit mid day. I seem to get some relief when I lay on my right side (where the infection is - weird, but maybe the pressure helps?). It is starting to flare up a bit now - hopefully will be able to get a little sleep though. I noticed another small new patch tonight - think that makes 8 total so far.
My parents came over for the day - was very nice. Peanut had a blast playing with them, and my Dad cut down the magnolia tree that was growing too close to the foundation and also all the large tree limbs that came down in last weekend's snow storm. A lot of outside work is finished- I know Ian is very grateful for the help (he has never used a chainsaw or taken down a tree). I baked a cake and some scones for Dad's birthday - and Mom did the dishes and helped Peanut take a nap. Was great!
12 more hours to go and then we will definitely be delivering at the new hospital. We better make it! If we are in the hospital on Monday, Mom and Dad will watch Peanut and make sure Ginger gets to the vets for her surgery. I am very thankful for that - Ginger is my furry baby and I am relieved to have her under their watch if I am gone. That dog means the world to me...really! She is and has always been MY dog...if you know what I mean.

Shingles
Is nothing like chicken pox...they share the same virus, but two distinct diseases. This is not an annoying itch and collection of bumps and rashes like when you were little.
Slept sporadically last night - at one point i woke up to a searing pain (like someone was stabbing and shocking me along the nerve line of the outbreak). This morning I feel pain along the line, and now a new itchiness on my belly - good morning, newest lesion on my upper belly. Shingles is a ring of fire-starts near your midline and then circles along your side and ends around back at your spine. The neat thing is that it literally forms a half circle around your body and traces the line of the nerve fiber that harbors the infection. Only neat from a biological perspective. I half 6 separate patches (lesions) that I can constantly feel (chemical burn like) and ice packs, nothing makes go away. Wearing a cotton shirt is the least painful option - must keep them covered as only the contents of the rash would be infective to Peanut (or anyone else that never had chickenpox). On the bright side, shingles is not as contagious as chickenpox-not airborne and only spread through contact with rash. Also, I cannot give shingles or chickenpox to anyone who has had chickenpox. Whew, Ian.
This is a pain like no other - shingles is a real terror. It is worse to endure than any case of poison ivy I have ever had (even the time my eyes had swollen shut). Hundreds of times worse. I don't know how I will handle the baby and Peanut and this shingles. Before I had hoped to deliver the baby Sunday or Monday because I was concerned about the size of him...but now I would like the antiviral meds some time to hopefully work so the shingles is more manageable...so late next week, okay baby? Also, there is a chance for the baby to contract chickenpox from me (and then be prone to pediatric shingles) if my rash is contagious after birth, so the more time the better. Poor baby, first his mother is gestational diabetic and increases his risk for complications and now shingles.
Ginger slept by me last night...big oaf took up major space on the bed but it made me smile in an otherwise tough night. Love that dog!

Ginger
Took Ginger to the vet tonight. She has had a few fatty tumors over the past few years that we have been tracking. Well, one of them has grown substantially over the past two weeks (odd for a lipoma) so we took her in to get it aspirated. A syringe full of blood...not good at all. She is getting surgery Monday morning to open it up, drain it, and try to determine what it is. Hopefully I won't be in the hospital and can take her myself. Bad bad timing for my old girl. Have to think positively, I am not ready to lose this dog!
This has been one crappy day - ready for some good things!

Always something new at the doc appointment
Found out what is causing the pain on my right side and back...I have shingles. It is developing into a nasty rash that I can only describe as the feeling of a constant brush burn/chemical burn. Itchy and painful and incessant. I have to take an antiviral med to try to lessen the length and severity. I hope Peanut does not get chicken pox from this...just not up to helping her through that right now.
Oh, and I am 39 weeks pregnant today. Baby is big and active. Baby is at moderate risk for shoulder dyslocia complication during delivery...the plan is to keep on waiting, next appt is Monday, but I could elect a c-section (which I wont) or induction at 40 weeks. Let's see how the weekend goes...
